A tourist attraction, they currently ply the route between Mount Faber and Sentosa and will be replaced next year.
The operator, Mount Faber Leisure Group, is getting 67 new cable cars whose exterior LED lights will make them sparkle like gems at night.
They can take up to eight people, versus six for the current ones.
Two weeks ago, the operator advertised in The Straits Times, inviting members of the public to make offers for the current cable cars.
What's available are 15 glass-bottomed types which were the world's first when they were introduced here in 1999.
Each cabin is 1.85m long, 1.6m wide and 1.75m high.
The other 66 cabins, without glass bottoms, have been around since 1994.
Each is 1.7m long, 1.55m wide and 1.75m high.
