The Vietnamese women's football squad gave their Singaporean opponents an embarassing evening to forget by thrashing them 10-0 at their ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup opener Thursday.
The Singaporean women were considered the match's underdogs but Vietnam's Chinese coach Chen Yun Fat showed no mercy in playing his first-string stars, who had complete control of the match beginning to end at Ho Chi Minh City’s Thong Nhat Stadium.
The Vietnamese women had ball possession in the Singaporean part of the field for most of the game and scored five goals in each half. Nguyen Thi Muon scored four goals while Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet took a hat trick.
Speaking after the match, the great tactician Fat said he was pleased.
"We had a big win, but more importantly, the Vietnamese players focused throughout the match even though our rivals were inferior. It was a good start. We will continue such efforts in the next games.”
In the other match of Group A, Myanmar beat the Philippines 3-0. San San Maw scored two and Nilar Myint scored the other goal.
