"There is a big question over whether the Russians actually have leverage over him."It is "not clear" what Trump is getting from Putin but there is a suspicion that Russia has something to hold over the president, says former head of Russia Desk at MI6 Christopher Steele.
I like to have a name like Steele, e.g., Remington Steele. It's such a badass name, very sud ki. But in our context, Steele will have to be the first name, like Steele Tan Tua Kee, Steel De Souza, etc. Then people will say, you Steal what?!
As to why trump is being putin's lap dog now, I can only come up with the reasons below. Let's ignore for now the fact that putin is a cold, manipulative, deceitful, murderous thug. Kind of difficult to trust such a guy.
1. From what I saw in trump's interview with Tucker Carlson, he wants to break up the putin/xi bromance. He said he wants to "dis-unite" or "un-unite" them. So he
needs to court putin.
2. Putin's two requests (afaik) to join NATO were rejected. Putin asked ex-NATO chief George Robertson in 2000 and Bill Clinton in 2001. So trump probably sees this as a rebuff of putin's good and sincere intention, and dislikes the fact that NATO caused this divide of russia and europe. He wants the US to get out of NATO too.
3. NATO lied about not moving one inch to the east, so trump emphasizes with putin.
"Not shift 1 inch eastward"
One
key statement came during a Feb. 9, 1990, meeting between James Baker and Gorbachev.
After explaining why the U.S. wanted the reunited Germany to stay within the framework of NATO, Baker
told Gorbachev that "if we maintain a presence in a
Germany that is a part of NATO, there would be no extension of NATO's jurisdiction for forces of NATO 1 inch to the east."
