I normally avoid Tiong contemporary drama - predictable plot, mainly romance, slow pace. Their period dramas are so much better, heads and shoulders above the Koreans, Japs and TVB in terms of script, production value, sets, costume and scenery.
But I highly recommend Wong Kar-Wai's Blossoms. HIghly mesmerizing, top notch acting, luscious sets and those who have lived in Shanghai in the '90s will attest to the drama's authenticity in capturing the optimistic and euphoric mood in that decade as China was opening up to the world. No question Wong is the world's most romantic filmmaker.
