Civil servants have the best life. None of my former JC and NUS classmates who joined the public sector have been laid off, and we are in our mid-50s now. Many of those who joined the corporate world ended up retrenched starting from their early 40s. Those who were laid off in their 50s ended up underemployed or unemployed thereafter.
