Unless you’re a professional who has trained for years, you should not aim to win marathons. It should be about doing your best and having fun. Pushing yourself too hard may lead to more difficult health issues. One of the participants during a KL marathon caught a scary moment of what happened to another participant.
The 2022 Kuala Lumpur Standard Charted Marathon (KLSCM) was one of the most anticipated marathons of the year after being postponed for so long due to the Covid-19 pandemic. People have been looking forward to this day and were ready to do their absolute best for the marathon. However, one person may have overdone it.
TikTok user @reuniey posted a video of the moment they caught sight of an ambulance and police officers at the side of the road. The video showed the police officers signalling the marathon participants to continue moving without stopping to avoid congestion. As the TikToker moved closer to the worrying scene, viewers got a clear view of a medic performing chest compressions on an unconscious individual believed to be one of the participants.
At the time the TikTok video was posted, it was not known about the participant’s condition but many believed he had suffered a heart attack at the start of the run due to overexertion. Netizens wrote their concerns over the incident in the comments sections and reminded others to not push themselves.
SOURCE: TIKTOKAfter the video went viral, netizens claimed that there were 2 participants who passed out during the marathon. Some commented saying they possibly knew the individual in the video. Currently, we don’t have much info on the unconscious person receiving CPR in the video other than netizens claiming that this was their friend or relative. So far, there is no official statement from the organisers.
Let this be a reminder to all of us to always make sure we’re healthy enough to join any sports event and not push ourselves beyond our limits. Take care of yourselves, everyone!
