“HIV-related stigma and discrimation in our society is a real and disturbing problem.”
“Despite HIV being in our vocabulary for the past 27 years, there is still a lot of fear. Misconceptions about HIV abound and this form the foundation for a lot of stigmatizing behavior.”
“In many communities, HIV-infected people suffer adverse consequences of stigma and discrimination such as social ostracization, abandonment by family and friends and loss of jobs. Fear of consequences make it less likely for people to come forward for testing, access to treatment and for care and support.”
