This made me cry. She was telling them thank you. Elephants are VERY VERY intelligent as are chimps, dolphins, dogs, and most social animals.

They didn't salute the men, they saluted the mecha cyborg elephant (ie. tractor excavator).

She says thank you, waits for a response. Nothing. She says it again. Still nothing. She turns to walk away but then decides, no, I want these people to know how grateful I am. Turns back around and with purpose and ceremony raises her trunk high into the air toward the rescuers. At which point they finally understand and call out to her, acknowledging the gesture so she can walk away edified. It's all as clear as day. Just mind-blowing.

This made me cry! And especially when she was raising her trunk a number of times, and then especially when you guys called back to her in unison with the same high note of love to her and she understood as well. What a wonderful moment of Joy that was! What wonderful men you were to do what you did and then communicate heart to heart with the great mother elephant.
