I believe he was just trying to express his concerns about putin being untrustworthy, even then he was ok with signing the deal. I believe that's what his people expected him to do.

Zelensky want sign deal on condition there is security guarantee from USA.

But Trump doesn't want to put that into black &white agreement. Trump only cares about getting minerals and getting 50% into a fund for war payment. In a sense , don't need security because USA will definitely protect the mineral rich areas so Russia dont touch it. But the rest of country, USA don't give a fk

yes, we all know that with US investments and personnel there, the US would certainly seek to preserve and protect their investments. But Ukraine rightfully needed to call attention to security guarantee nonetheless as per the Budapest Memorandum signed in 1994, affirming Ukraine's security and sovereignty in exchange for giving up their nuclear weapons. US, UK, Russia, Ukraine signed the agreement.

It must suck big time to be a ukrainian. Russia promised not to attack but they did. US promised to provide security but they want to be paid for it, and now reneged on it.
