Yes, it's odd. A check on the internet says only tigers are native to Matland, not lions. But the 2 animals in the CCTV video do indeed look like lions. Maybe as you say, escaped lions.
 
Where got lion in malay archipelago. That why Indians named the island after Singha beer. Singha in Thailand also means lion although no Lions there. It's all Indian influence after maybe a thousand years of assimilation, colonisation of entire South East Asia by Indians. Initially Buddhist but later Hindus.

There are indeed Asiatic lions in India with the last remaining population found in the state of Gujarat, Western India. In fact, the lions in the S'pore Zoo are from India.
