I was a OCBC scam victim. This is my story.

I share a joint account with my wife. It was a Tuesday morning and I had just come back from the doctor because my 11 month old daughter had HFMD. I was trying to get her to drink water, when my wife told me she received a strange message from OCBC, telling her someone was trying to access her account.
It was the phising message, she clicked it.

Things started unravelling, she tried calling the bank and was put on hold at least twice. I didn't think too much about it, I trusted her judgement and my daughter needed to be fed desperately.

Later that afternoon, my wife had brought my 3 year old out to the playground when she called me in a panic. She needed to go to the police station to make a report, our bank account was compromised. I logged on to the account and our life savings were wiped out. We lost everything in 5 overseas transactions.

I called the bank immediately and they said that it had to be taken up by my wife, because she clicked the link.

Eventually, she came home and we called the bank together. They told us that they would try their best to get it back in 9 days, but the money was gone and chances were slim.

I immediately took out my calculator and bashed in all the cash I had lying around. What if I can't pay my bills? How will my kids eat?

KNN my uncle also feel abit nightmarish reading it KNN after his wife contacted bank and put on hold at least twice he or the wife still didn't check the account bear learn and afternoon still can go playground :rolleyes: KNN

There is no difference between a chinese banker and crooks. They all look the same.

The issue is...banks should not allow overseas transactions soo easily. The banks are not doing its due diligence because there is no consumer protection. So no lost to them even if the whole country is scammed

This victim left out very important details leh. U don’t get your money scammed just by clicking on a link. After the link was clicked, the idiot wife went on to enter the login details and even provide the OTP perhaps. That’s the part where you lose your money, not just ‘clicking’ on a link.

So these cunts really deserve to get scammed.

Its just sway that the scammers chose OCBC this time. How about next time DBS, or UOB ... etc, the list is endless
Are we going to withdraw all our money & keep in milo tin, under bed ?
They have been scammed because they lived in a safe country for too long

I don't understand how in this day and age there are still highly educated young people who just put everything in cash in one bank account. This is no different from the Milo tin illiterate and hard labour generation who had no choice. Whatever were these people thinking?

This guy should be a tertiary educated and well paid civil servant and his wife should be roughly similar as well. How on earth did these two end up with like that where once a single OCBC account was wiped out they are so desperate that they need to raise cash to even survive the next day? Bizarre!

All these victims have internet banking is it? All my large sums of money are in premier accounts in 3 banks. No ATM cards or internet banking. Only over the counter withdrawals.

Spot on. No wonder they get scammed. Instead of logging in, they should have called ocbc to verify the authenticity of the sms.

Amazing that they did not spread their money across various banks, nor put into FD.
