In yet another case of vandalised mailboxes, STOMPer AMK Resident spotted this near the Ang Mo Kio MRT station.

"Saw the mail box vandalised on 4 Jan 2010 at AMK MRT Station.

"Apparently looks like the same work done by the same vandal appearing in Bukit Batok and Holland Village.

"Is the culprit caught?"

This brings the number of mailboxes defaced over the last week to three. The police are investigating.

Defaced mailboxes: Sorry for causing alarm and inconvenience, says SingPost

mailbox_vandal_is_pr_stunt_what_a_stupid_move-thumbnail.jpg

STOMPer Zomg is disturbed by what companies consider as publicity nowadays, referring to the recent rash of defaced mailboxes that are apparently part of SingPost's efforts to reach out to the youth.

Mailboxes at Holland Village, Bukit Batok and Ang Mo Kio have been vandalised by a masked man who signed off as 'Mr Ink'.

In his email, the STOMPer wrote:

"What are companies thinking these days, in the name of cheap publicity?

"Vandalism or graffiti is an anti-social act in many countries; this is telling our youth that this unsavoury activity is ok and 'cool'.

"How can a national institution like SingPost associate itself with an unlawful act that is punishable by caning here in Singapore?

"Now even the police are involved.

"SingPost and the PR company, whichever it is, have really gone overboard this time!"

On the subject of the campaign and its reception, a SingPost spokesperson had the following comments:

"The recent street art activity is a lead-up to the STAMP 02 posting box art competition which is part of our youth-themed campaign entitled “Express Yourself”. It was conceived as part of a viral marketing initiative to create greater awareness and buzz on self-expression through art and sports.

"Over the next week, local artists will repaint these 6 mailboxes, to showcase and reflect what STAMP 02 is really all about. We are offering 40 of our posting boxes as ‘special canvas’ for this art competition with the theme SPORTS & THE CITY.

"We would like to apologise for the undue alarm and inconveniences caused to all parties. SingPost would like to thank the public for their interest, concern and public spiritedness."

why should we tolerate and accept the wrong-doing of the big boss in big companies? If a normal sinkie did this, he would be fined, jailed and caned. Why the boss not been treated equally and get fine, jail and cane?:oIo:

This is the biggest publicity boo boo by Singpost....they could have just put the word out, many people would have gladly defaced their mail box for free....
