Carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) docked at the Port Klang Cruise Terminal, Malaysia on Sunday morning just over a month after carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) into the same terminal on Nov. 23.
“This visit marks the second U.S. Navy aircraft carrier visit to Malaysia in just over a month since 2012,” reads a Sunday Navy release.
The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group is made up of Vinson, cruiser USS Princeton (CG -9) and destroyers USS Sterett (DDG-104) and USS William P. Lawrence (DDG-110) and the embarked Carrier Air Wing 2.
“Malaysia is a key partner for us in the Indo-Pacific. Our visit reinforces the importance of this partnership to the United States,” said Rear Adm. Michael Wosje, commander, Carrier Strike Group One in the release.
“Visiting Port Klang provides us with an important and unique opportunity to collaborate with our Royal Malaysian Navy counterparts, continuing to build upon our strategic and mutually beneficial partnership, while also providing our sailors well-deserved downtime to explore the area and build connections within the community.”
