Use of cellphone while driving making a comeback

I REFER to Mr Edwin Leong's Forum Online letter on Tuesday, 'Parents throwing caution to the wind on the road'.
I wholeheartedly agree with him. It is because of the lack of enforcement action that parents have become complacent regarding road safety and the safety of their children in vehicles. While parents may view a trip in a vehicle as a joy ride with their children, it is no laughing matter to see toddlers playing in the rear seats of vehicles and not properly buckled up.
Nor is it a joy to see a smiling toddler on the laps of parents on front seats. Sure, the toddlers and children enjoy themselves, but have parents forgotten how they can become projectiles without proper restraints if emergency braking is applied?
I have also noticed, with alarming regularity recently, the return of the 'cellphone driver'. They invariably only have one hand on the steering wheel with a cellphone in the other. They have become bold, again probably due to a lack of enforcement.
I urge the authorities to clamp down on such motorists to send a strong message that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
