A powerful explosion from a suspected gas leak ripped through a shopping mall in Florida, injuring at least 15 people.
Two of those were in serious condition after the blast in the town of Plantation in south Florida on Saturday.
Between 15 and 20 people were injured, deputy fire chief Joel Gordon told reporters.
Photos on US news outlets showed a large field of debris outside the Fountains Plaza shopping centre.
The photos showed an LA Fitness gym heavily damaged, with its windows blown out. The blast sent large pieces of debris about 91 metres across the street.
The fire department called it a gas explosion with "multiple patients".
The Sun-Sentinel, a South Florida newspaper, reported that witnesses said a vacant restaurant appeared to be the source of the explosion. Local TV station WPLG said around 20 people were injured, two of them seriously.
The Plantation fire and police departments said on Twitter that the street was closed to traffic.

A vacant pizza restaurant exploded on Saturday in a thundering roar at a south Florida shopping plaza, injuring more than 20 people as large chunks of concrete flew through the air.
The blast flung debris widely along a busy road in Plantation, west of Fort Lauderdale. The restaurant was destroyed, and nearby businesses and cars were damaged.
Though firefighters found ruptured gas lines afterward, authorities said it was too early to determine a cause.
“We thought it was thunder at first, and then we felt the building shake and things started falling. I looked outside and it was almost like the world was ending,” said Alex Carver, a worker at a deli across the street from the explosion. “It was nuts, man. It was crazy.”
The explosion scattered large pieces of concrete as far as 50 yards and sent pieces of metal as far as 100 yards across the street. Carver said two of his co-workers’ cars were destroyed.
At least 21 people were injured though none of the injuries was life-threatening, police sergeant Jesica Ryan said.
The explosion demolished the building, leaving behind only part of its metal frame. The restaurant, called Pizzafire, had been out of business for several months. The blast also blew out the windows of a fitness club next door at the shopping plaza in Broward county.
Jesse Walaschek had just left the fitness club with his wife and three children, aged four, six and eight. They had parked near the restaurant and had driven about 50 yards away when they heard the blast.
“It was a massive explosion like I have never experienced,” he said, saying dust and debris filled the air.
“Everything just stopped. You didn’t see anybody. I just wanted to get these guys safe,” he said, pointing to his children. “If this had happened a minute before when we were getting the kids in the car, it would have been really bad.”
Dozens of firefighters responded and could be seen picking through the rubble with dogs sniffing through the debris to make sure people weren’t trapped underneath. There were no known fatalities immediately after the explosion.
Fire chief Joel Gordon said there were ruptured gas lines when firefighters arrived, but he couldn’t say for certain that it was a gas explosion.
“At this point, nobody was killed. Thank goodness for that. As bad as it is, it could have been a lot worse,” Gordon said.

BEIJING (AP) — At least three people were killed and four others buried in the collapse of a building in southern China on Monday, authorities said.
Framework surrounding a bar in the city of Baise in Guangxi province gave way at around 1 a.m., trapping or injuring almost 100 people.
The local government said in a statement on its microblog that 87 people were injured. Rescuers were using search dogs and electronic monitors to try to find other survivors.
The bar was located on the top of a three-story, steel-framed building.
China has recently suffered a spate of building collapses and other industrial accidents largely blamed on the skirting of safety requirements amid a slowing economy.
On Thursday, a building being refurbished collapsed in Shanghai, and in March, 78 people were killed in a blast at a chemical plant in the country's east.
In November, at least 22 were killed in an explosion outside a chemical plant in the northeastern city of Zhangjiakou, which will host competitions in the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Building Collapse in Chinese City of Wenzhou Kills at Least 22

HONG KONG — The Chinese state news media reported Tuesday that at least 22 people had died in the collapse of four residential buildings in an eastern city the day before, a toll that would make it one of the deadliest cases of its kind in recent years.
The buildings, cramped six-story quarters for migrant workers in the city of Wenzhou, collapsed about 3:25 a.m. on Monday, the state-run Zhejiang Daily reported. Neighbors, flashlights in hand, began to sift through the rubble before rescue workers arrived, the paper said. Early reports indicated that several people had been killed, but the toll rose as rescue efforts continued Monday and overnight.
Chinese television showed scenes of dozens of rescue workers, some in orange coveralls and others in military fatigues, digging by hand through the rubble. By Tuesday morning, six people had been rescued, including a 3-year-old girl who was pulled from the wreckage on Monday evening, the state news media reported. Reports suggested that the girl’s father, who was killed, appeared to have shielded her from the building’s collapse.
Wenzhou, a bustling coastal city in Zhejiang Province, is a major manufacturing hub for goods like shoes and purses, and its factories attract thousands of migrant workers from across the country. The 3-year-old’s parents had worked in a shoe factory, and the girl spent most of the year with her grandparents thousands of miles away, her aunt told a local news website, Zhejiang Online.

The cause of the collapse was unclear on Tuesday, but several state news outlets reported that the four structures, which were next to each other, had been built by rural workers. They were part of a neighborhood of ramshackle, low-rise apartment buildings, portions of which officials and developers had wanted to demolish, according to a report in The Beijing News. The report said some residents had resisted the effort, which had been going on for two years, by refusing to move or demanding levels of compensation that the local government was unwilling to pay.
By Monday evening, the top two officials in Zhejiang, a province once run by China’s president, Xi Jinping, had arrived in Wenzhou to oversee the rescue efforts, the state-run China News Agency reported.
Building collapses are not unusual in China, whose cities have mushroomed in the past several decades as hundreds of millions of rural residents flocked to them in search of work. Shoddy construction is rampant. Poorly built structures, or “tofu buildings,” were blamed for exacerbating the death toll during the 2008 earthquake that killed more than 69,000 people in Sichuan Province, in southwestern China.
In the district of Wenzhou where the collapse occurred, more than 1,400 buildings were deemed unsafe and in need of reinforcement or demolition in 2014, Wenzhou Daily reported at the time.

Hong Kong (CNN)At least 22 people were killed in eastern China when residential buildings collapsed early Monday morning local time, state media reported.
It's not clear what caused the collapse in Wenzhou, which is 285 miles (460 km) south of Shanghai and located in the province of Zhejiang.
Xinhua news agency reported that the buildings which fell apart were constructed by villagers. The cause of the collapse, according to the agency, is still being investigated.

Rescuers search for survivors at an accident site after four buildings caved in during the early hours in Wenzhou, eastern China's Zhejiang province on October 10.
Some 28 people were rescued, and the six who survived are in stable condition, according to Xinhua.
The latest, the agency reported, was a young girl found in the rubble being shielded from the cave-in by her parents.
The tragic image appears show the immediate aftermath of the collapse frozen in time.

Rescuers try to save a young survivor who was protected by the body of her parents at an accident site after four buildings caved in during the early hours in Wenzhou in eastern China's Zhejiang province.
Xinhua reports that the girl's parents died, but People's Daily, another state-run news organization, said it "remains to be seen" if the couple will live.
The 800-person rescue operation was finished at about 1 a.m. Tuesday, Xinhua reported.
