  The guided-missile Type 054A frigate ‘Huangshan,’ two J-11B fighter jets and one Z-8 helicopter were sent to identify the US vessel and make it leave the waters.
  
  The incident with the USS ‘Chafee’ would affect trust between the militaries of the two countries, the ministry stated, adding that further operations of such nature might trigger “unwanted incidents.”
  
  China’s Foreign Ministry has also urged the US to “respect the sovereignty and security” of the country and stop such “erroneous acts.”
  
  “The US destroyer’s behavior violated Chinese law and relevant international law, severely harmed China’s sovereignty and security interests, and threatened the lives of military personnel of both sides,”ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a daily press briefing.
  
  The destroyer, however, did not violate the 12-nautical-mile territorial limits of the islands, according to a Reuters report, citing US military officials. The mission was carried out to challenge “excessive maritime claims” in the region, according to the officials.

  US ships have repeatedly sailed past the disputed islets in the South China Sea, triggering an angry reaction from China. Beijing accuses the US of violating its sovereignty, while Washington claims the missions support “freedom of navigation” in the region.
  
  Small uninhabited islets in the resource-rich South China Sea are contested by multiple nations. The Paracel archipelago is claimed by China, Taiwan and Vietnam, while the Spratly Islands are additionally contested by the Philippines, Malaysia and Brunei.

中国军队将针对美军的一再挑衅行动，进一步加强海空战备建设，提高防卫能力水平，坚定捍卫国家主权和安全利益。当前，中美两国两军关系正处在发展的重要时期，我们要求美方采取切实措施改正错误，为两国两军关系的发展增添正能量。

Saudi Arabia has "to pay attention to this because even as much as one or two years from now, Chinese demand will dwarf US demand," Weinberg told the media.

"I believe that yuan pricing of oil is coming and as soon as the Saudis move to accept it — as the Chinese will compel them to do — then the rest of the oil market will move along with them," he added.

A 1974 agreement between US President Richard Nixon and Saudi King Faisal meant Riyadh has been accepting dollars for all its oil exports.

However, recently, countries like China and Russia have been looking to exclude the greenback from bilateral oil trade. Russia and Saudi Arabia are the most significant exporters of oil to China, alternating in top spot.

China has already said it wants to start a crude oil futures contract priced in yuan and convertible into gold.

Veteran investor Jim Rogers told RT last month that countries are getting more concerned about trading in dollars, because “if the US gets angry at you, they just set enormous pressure on you that can even get you out of business.”

“China, Russia, and other countries understand this, and they are trying to move world trade and world finance away from that,” said Rogers.

In July, Russia and China signed a 68 billion yuan ($10 billion) investment fund to ease ruble-yuan settlements

Navy punishes McCain captain over collision that killed 10 sailors

The McCain, an Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer, collided with the merchant vessel Alnic MC on August 21 near Singapore. Ten sailors were killed and five injured in the incident.

“While the investigation is ongoing, it is evident the collision was preventable, the commanding officer exercised poor judgement, and the executive officer exercised poor leadership of the ship’s training program,” the Seventh Fleet said.

Both officers were reassigned to shore duty, with the former captain moving to the fleet headquarters and the former executive officer assuming duties at the Ship Repair Facility, both located in Yokosuka, Japan.

Another Arleigh Burke class destroyer, the USS Fitzgerald, collided with a cargo ship near Yokosuka in June. Seven sailors were killed in that incident, and the ship’s command staff was likewise relieved.

US Navy announces 'operational pause' after McCain incident
In the aftermath of the McCainincident, the Navy called for an unprecedented “operational pause” in all fleets to review safety procedures, and ordered a wide-ranging investigation into Seventh Fleet operations.

The fleet’s commanding officer, Vice Admiral Joseph Aucoin, was relievedat the end of August due to “lack of confidence in his ability to command.”

Admiral Scott Swift, head of the US naval forces in the Pacific, announced he would retire in September, after he was passed over for promotion to the Pacific Command.

Deputy Chief of Naval Operations Admiral William F. Moran told Congress last month that increased operational demands contributed to a drop in performance standards and certifications for the crews.

John H. Pendleton, a director of Defense Capabilities and Management at the Government Accountability Office (GAO), told lawmakers that 37 percent of the certifications for the crews of Seventh Fleet cruisers and destroyers based in Yokosuka, Japan, had expired.

“The Navy has had to shorten, eliminate, or defer training and maintenance periods to support these high deployment rates,” Pendleton told Congress.

The Seventh Fleet operates about 70 ships, and has approximately 20,000 sailors and 140 aircraft.
