Lt Col Jeffrey Krusinski has been charged with sexual battery and after allegedly attacking a woman in Virginia during a drunken night out over the weekend.
A mug shot shows the 41-year-old officer with cuts and scratches on his face, believed to have been suffered as he grappled with the woman.
Lt Col Krusinski had only been in charge of the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Programme for two months before his arrest early on Sunday morning.
The Arlington Police Department report reads: "On May 5 at 12.35am, a drunken male subject approached a female victim in a parking lot and grabbed her breasts and buttocks.
"The victim fought the suspect off as he attempted to touch her again and alerted police. Jeffrey Krusinski, 41, of Arlington, VA, was arrested and charged with sexual battery."
The Air Force has continually struggled with allegations of sexual assault in its ranks. Dozens of female trainees at a Texas airbase claimed to have been assaulted by male instructors since 2009, leading to more than 30 being removed from their posts.
Earlier this year a female Air Force general overturned a male subordinate's conviction for sexual assault, leading to criticism from some in Congress over the way the issue is handled in the military.
