Giles Ji Ungpakorn
The anger of the ordinary people has finally erupted into violence with numerous buildings being set of fire in Bangkok and the provinces. People are also trying to use any means to fight the army. There are reports that Government buildings, banks, the stock-exchange, luxury shopping malls and pro-military media are all being set on fire.
All this is totally justified.. why?
Because:
1. The Government and the army have repeatedly used armed soldiers, assassination squads, snipers and tanks to kill unarmed pro-democracy demonstrators since April. The death toll will easily reach 80 with thousands injured.
2. This state-sponsored violence against civilians was carried out in order that Abhisit’s military-backed Government could stay in power and avoid elections for as long as possible. It was never elected in the first place. The Government is a product of military and judicial coups since 2006.
3. The Red Shirts have repeatedly offered talks and compromises, yet the Government has answered with bullets.
4. In a Democracy, the people should be the ultimate decision-makers, not the military, the elites and the Palace. Any demand for democratic elections is totally justified, even if it disrupts shopping centres and luxury hotels.
5. Mealy-mouthed so called non-violent groups could never bring themselves to put the blame entirely on the shoulders of the Government, the military and Royalist elites, despite the fact that the violence was from the army. They never put their weight behind the huge struggle of the UDD leadership to try to maintain a peaceful and disciplined protest. This is because these organisations supported the coup in 2006 in the first place. They allowed the Government to claim that there would be no peace until the protests stopped.
Yet now that the official protest has been drowned in blood and stopped, there will not be peace because there is no justice.

What a blatant lie.

those stupid red shirts were made used by thaksin. thaksin has created too much discords between the Thai like what happened in Taiwan, the blue and the green. in this case, the yellow and the red. got a friend in Thailand doing illegal business said reds are not peaceful as they do not live in the city, they will rob and burn everything down in the city simply because its not their home town.

the gov is stupid react so slowly and let them created a stronghold in the middle of Bangkok. should intercept them and detain those making way to Bangkok before they muster there.

even thaksin supporters won the elections, you think thaksin can go back to Thailand and be pm again??? he will be killed if he dare to re enter Thailand. too many people tulan him already. they will not resort to legal way to bring him down, they will just gun him down. what they need is just a bullet.

in Thailand, although the authorities are corrupted. but if u r too xiah lan and create too much problem for them. they will just kill you and make it look like a gun fight. no point wasting tax payers money to go charge them and send them to jail. thats what happened to some china man doing kidnapping "business" in Thailand.

I think Red Shirts thot they had momentum since Gov agreed to negotiating terms. Then they tried to negotiate for Thaksin's return and by doing so showed for all to see who is behind the protest. Basically Gov was ok for elections except that Thaksin cannot return. WHat is wrong with that? But because the Thaksin clause was not approved, Reds scuttled the deal and by doing so showed who was the mastermind.

PM was bending over backwards to prevent loss of life. Then we start seeing grenade attacks (early days of protest when they were pouring human blood at PM's house, some said it was the military creating a show but we can now see that the protestors are well armed). The Gov could have crushed them in a matter of hours as we can see but they wanted a peaceful out so as to avoid loss of life.

Last few days we have see the true colors of the protestors. Torching banks and hotels is not acceptable

Warrant arrest is not smart political move. Bringing him back will only create political theatre. Instead work with the US and European countries - show them the evidence (we all know Thaksin is major mover behind all this) and then get them to freeze Thaksin's assets.

Notice the use of word terrorism? well Bangkok in flames is good evidence. so just squeeze the joker dry. Use the same tools that US has for North korea and Osama. This is pramatic approach - remove the $$$ and he will be just a talking head - been used elsewhere to great effect.

To be honest, without his $$ do you think Montenegro will shield him? He probably invested $100M in some project there and gave controlling stake to Gov officials there.

just like watching a muay thai boxing match going on mah.

The PM already given the date for election. And yet the Reds turned it down by more demands. If ThugSin not behind the scene, who else? I only pity the rural poor...being manupulated...lives being taken...and yet ThugSin, the rich, still in hiding....:mad:
