Unlicensed remittance agent fined $10,000

A customer service officer was fined $10,000 on Wedesday for carrying on a remittance business without a valid licence.

China national Liu Yueyi, 31, a Singapore permanent resident, admitted to running the remittance business from her Tampines home between November 2010 and June 12 last year.

A court heard that Liu and her husband operate a freight forwarding business from her flat by helping customers to order goods from China, pay and receive the goods.

That was how her remittance business began.
