A man who had no licence and drank before taking his friends home was jailed for 28 months on Tuesday for causing death by dangerous driving and other offences.

Sikandar Singh Gill, 28, who used to run his own cleaning services firm, was also banned from driving for 10 years for the fatal accident along Corporation Road on July 4, 2010.

He pleaded guilty to causing the death of his close friend, Mr Harinder Singh, 25, by driving in a dangerous manner, causing grievous hurt to his front and rear left passengers, drink driving, and driving without a valid Class 3 licence.

The court heard that before the accident, he, Mr Harinder Singh, a security officer, and the two victims, Mr Gurdial Singh, 27, and Haji Maideen Shaik Dawood, 37, both Indian nationals, had been drinking at a park near Block 208 Boon Lay Place.
