<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I WAS involved in an accident with a taxi on the night of April 16 at a slip road junction towards the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE). I slowed down to give way to traffic on my right and a taxi bumped into my rear.
On impact, both vehicles stopped. The taxi then sped off. I managed to overtake the vehicle along the PIE and gestured to the cabby twice to stop to inspect our vehicles and to exchange particulars. He continued driving. I called the Traffic Police and was advised to take down his licence number and make a police report.
A police report was done an hour later. A week later, a Traffic Police officer called me to confirm if the taxi driver had stopped his vehicle on impact. I said yes. The officer then pointed out that it was not a hit-and-run case as the taxi driver did stop but did not exchange particulars. A month later, I received a letter from the Traffic Police stating that no action was taken and no warning was given to the taxi driver.
My question is can I bump into another vehicle, stop my car for a moment and then drive off without exchanging particulars - and not be charged if there is no casualty? Roslan Abdul Rahim
