Unemployed man jailed for assaulting wife

An unemployed man who punched and hit his wife with a belt was sentenced to four weeks' jail on Monday.
Mohamed Salim Shahul Hameed, 47, pleaded guilty to punching the face and back of Madam Mohamuthal Mohd Hanifa, 44, and to using a belt to whip her arm at their flat in Jurong East on Nov 28, 2010.
Salim was given until Wednesday to start his sentence to settle some family matter.
He was angry with his wife for allowing their second daughter to go on a school trip to Hong Kong despite his objections.
