Uncle Roger Banned On Weibo After Sharing Video Lightly Poking Fun At China
Fans of Uncle Roger thinks the ban is due to one of his recent clips where he teased China’s strict regulations.

Youtuber Nigel Ng, better known as Uncle Roger, has been banned on Weibo. According to the status message on Uncle Roger’s Weibo account, he’s currently banned for violating “relevant regulations.”
This comes after Ng uploaded a video of his Uncle Roger routine where he lightly poked fun at China. The video is allegedly a preview of his full routine that’s showing on 4 June.
During his routine, he interacted with a member of the audience who said he is from Guangzhou, China.
In response, Ng said “China, good country, good country,” to the laughter of the audience.
He then added, “We have to say that now, correct? All the phones are listening.”
Ng also pointed out the guy’s Huawei phone and found out the guy uses Express VPN. Ng said, “Don’t let your government hear that please.”
He then jokingly said “Long live President Xi” twice towards his pocket, to symbolise his phone being kept there.
“Uncle Roger’s social credit score going up,” Ng said while the audience laughed.
When Ng asked if anyone in the audience is from Taiwan, he jokingly said Taiwan is not a real country and hope they’ll rejoin the motherland: One China.
Ng concluded his comedy routine in the clip by saying he would be cancelled after this. He told the audience to write a good report for him to the Chinese government, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Uncle Roger was criticised by Chinese fans before
It’s not the first time Ng got into trouble with China or, more accurately, his Chinese fans.Previously in January 2021, Ng was criticised by Chinese fans on Weibo for collaborating with Chinese-American Youtuber, Mike Chen, who’s known for his critical views of CCP.
In the video, Ng and Chen didn’t talk about anything political. Both men poked fun at a food presenter’s attempt to make dumplings.
At the time, Ng and his staff apologised in a statement and said the video made a “bad social impact.” Ng claimed he wasn’t aware of Chen’s political leanings and remarks about China.
Ng also took down all the videos with Chen from all platforms, but this decision drew ire from some critics who accuse Ng of easily caving into China.
A Chinese comedian’s joke about China’s military got him in trouble
Before Ng’s Weibo ban, Chinese comedian Li Haoshi was arrested while the comedy company Xiaoguo Culture Media that hired him was fined 14.7 million yuan (RM9.64 million) a few days ago.Li, stage name House, allegedly made a joke about China’s military by comparing them to dogs and making fun of President Xi’s slogan for the military.
Li and Xiaoguo have apologised for the performance and described the joke as an “inappropriate metaphor.”
However, the Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau said the joke broke performance regulations, which stated that it should not “hurt national feelings” or “damage national honour and interests.”
The punishment was compounded as the company failed to stop the performance once the regulation was broken.
