A decomposed body found near the back gates of the Istana on Tuesday morning has been removed.

The police have cordoned off the area along Cavenagh Road and are investigating the crime scene.

A rotten stench was reported in the area by onlookers.

According to The Straits Times, a man arrived at the scene and asked if the unidentified body belonged to a 77-year-old man who is believed to be his father.

He then asked for a description of the body from the police before he left.

A walking stick was also removed from the scene by police officers. It is believed to be the property of the deceased.

SINGAPORE - A decomposed body was found near the back gates of the Istana, along Cavenagh Road, this morning.

Police have cordoned off the area and investigations are ongoing. They have ruled it an unnatural death, though no foul play is suspected.

The TODAY photographers on the scene reported a strong, foul smell in the vicinity, likely to be from the decomposing body.

The body was removed just before 2pm by the police and undertakers.

The body of an unidentified person found near the back gates of the Istana on Tuesday morning has been removed.

Police have cordoned the area along Cavenagh Road and are investigating.

Onlookers have reported a rotten stench in the area.

At about 12.50pm, a man arrived at the scene in a truck, asking if the body belonged to a 77-year-old man believed to be his father. He spoke to police, asking for a description of the body and eventually left.

THE decomposed body of an unidentified person was found near the fence surrounding the Istana yesterday morning.

Police said that the body was found in Cavenagh Road, after a call was made about a foul stench in the vicinity at about 8am.

The body was hidden from sight - possibly by foliage and bushes - and it took police officers some time to find it.

It is understood to have been there for days.

A walking stick was also reportedly removed from the scene by the police.

The police have classified the case as an unnatural death and investigations are ongoing.

The latest case brings to nine the number of bodies found in public areas such as parks and reservoirs over the past three months.

Last month, two bodies were found floating in Lower Seletar and Serangoon reservoirs. In the first such case, the lower torso of a man was found in Bedok Reservoir on June 20. It was later identified to be that of a Chinese national.
