The Ministry of Justice has been blasted for hosting a guest speaker who said in now-deleted social media posts that 'Jews need to get in the queue behind Muslims', in response to concerns about anti-Semitism.

Shreen Mahmood, an ambassador for World Hijab Day which encourages women to wear the head covering for a day, spoke at an event run by the department's Muslim staff network on February 6.

A Whitehall insider described her inclusion in the event as 'reprehensible', The Telegraph reports, after it emerged that she had made a series of tweets appearing to diminish Jewish people's experience of anti-Semitism.

In comments made in 2018, while the Labour party was gripped by an anti-Semitism scandal, Ms Mahmood seemingly downplayed the level of racism being faced by Jewish figures.

More recently, following the October 7 attacks on Israel, she allegedly retweeted a post that read: 'Under international law, Palestine, as occupied territory, has every right to defend itself just like Ukraine does.'
