The man was caught in the women's changing room at the University of Leeds' The Edge sports centre.
And when workers spoke to him as he hid in the toilet cubicle, Declan Crosbie tried to sound like a woman as he replied, reported the British media, which did not say when the incident took place.
Crosbie, 25, sneaked into the cubicle, hoping to peep at the Chinese Olympic swimmers, who were training there before the start of the games in London.
The peeping Tom, who pleaded guilty last month to trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence, was in court again on Tuesday for sentencing.
But the judge decided to postpone the hearing to Sept 17.
Caught
Crosbie was caught when three members of the Chinese women's swimming team saw him peering over the top of cubicles as they were getting changed.
The swimmers reported him to sports centre staff.
Prosecutor Karen Williams told the court last month: "At 11.30 in the morning, the receptionist at the university sports centre was made aware of a male in the female changing room."
The receptionist alerted the duty manager and a security guard and they went investigate.
When they approached him, he answered them in a woman's voice.
And when he came out of the cubicle, the three employees noted that he was "dressed smartly, carrying a rucksack" with "his fly undone".
Crosbie begged them not to call the police, then broke free and escaped from the sports centre.
He was later caught by the police.
Crosbie has previous convictions for voyeurism in 2005 and 2006, reported the Guardian. He had been caught peering at women from under leisure centre toilet cubicles.
In 2009, he was jailed for three years after a court heard how he was found inside a house standing over a sleeping woman with the trousers down.
He was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life that year, reported the British press.
On Tuesday, Crosbie, who sat with his head bowed throughout the hearing, was told that he may not have to serve jail time.
Judge Peter Collier said he would consider sentencing Crosbie to a treatment course for sexoffenders.
He told the accused that he needed to be assessed in a bail hostel for 28 days before the sentence could be passed, reported Fox News.
A University of Leeds spokesman told the Daily Mail on Tuesday: "When this incident occurred, the athletes from the Olympic team were not booked in for a training session at the sports centre, so the highest level of security, which is reserved for when athletes are training, was not active...
"The sports centre is used by staff, students and members of the public, and fortunately this type of event is very rare.
"However, we will, of course, be reviewing our security to see whether there is anything else we need to do to protect our users."
