<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->PRIME Minister Lee Hsien Loong has urged Singaporeans to continue to support the arts despite the economic slump.
Speaking at the Singapore Chinese Orchestra's appreciation dinner yesterday, he stressed that community support is vital for music and the arts to flourish.
'Music and the arts enrich our lives, our soul and our city,' he said. 'They can flourish and improve only with the support of the community, through their patronage and applause and sometimes, their constructive criticism.'
He added: 'I hope Singaporeans will continue to support the arts with their time and energy, and to donate generously even in this difficult period.'
The dinner was held in honour of the orchestra's outgoing directors and present board members.
At the event, PM Lee presented tokens of appreciation to the retired chairman of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Mr Chew Keng Juea, as well as other outgoing directors.
Mr Chew, a retired Chinese newspaper chief, had headed the orchestra's board of directors since 2000. Last year, he handed the reins to Mr Robin Hu, senior executive vice-president of the Chinese Newspapers and Newspaper Services divisions of Singapore Press Holdings.

Local arts? Who needs that kind of rubbish. Want to be taken seriously do something people would like.

The DURIAN pretty much says it all about the arts scene in singapore.

That is not a pot made by master potter Iskandar Jalil !!

That is suppose to be an ash urn for him to fuck himself dead if he can't churn out positive economic growth in 2009 !!

When I was employed and sales was bad due to economic downturn, I explained it to my board of directors. They told me that my job is to bring in sales regardless economic bad or not. WHY ? Because they PAID ME TO DO THE FUCKING JOB !!! IF I CAN'T PERFORM, THEN SHIP OUT !!

SO, FUCKER LOON, the following is the message:

TAKE MILLIONS BUT CAN'T OFFER POSITIVE GROWTH, YET BLAME IT ON GLOBAL FINANCIAL SITUATION. THEN, RESIGN AND RETURN THE MILLIONS$$$, FUCKER !!

Mr. PM, I would implore you to ask your rich friends to donate generously to people who are having problems to put their next meal on the table.

Singapore arts is still quite new and our great PAP government wanted to help develop this field in order to allow our local arts talents and professionals has the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents.

Arts will flourish naturally when a civilisation flourishes. No need for artificial intervention or help.

Agree. But they still don't get it. For arts to flourish and develop there must be patrons who are really into that stuff. Arts for the glory of a city, arts for the glory of religion, arts for self-glorification (heaven forbid that a cult of Lee arises to that end!) :D

There are alot of job titles relating to the arts industry such as, artist, musicians, dancers, performers, designers etc... Our great PAP government wanted to try help develop on this area to help those arts enthusiasts and talents to have an opportunity on this area in future. Our children and the next generation will have more options in their choices of development next time. Our great PAP are doing a great job for local arts enthusiasts, talents and professionals.

There are already have, such as NAFA and LaSalle-SIA conducting arts course for our enthusiasts and talents to develop themselves. There are plenty of arts enthusiasts who really wish to have a career in this area but there were lack of support last time and the field is limited. But now with the great encouragement and support from our great PAP government, this field will be another popular industry for our young generation to look upon to. 3 cheers for our great PAP.

In other words we going to be paying lots of money for ugly junk that nobody likes. :D

Besides arts is subjective what they consider art, I consider junk and rubbish.

While brick and mortar businesses are suffering . You should wavied all our overheads.

Lee Hsien Looney appeal to us to support Arts by inviting all idiotic white men and women to come over .

Before we support, you must do something for us too.

Look at him living it up, while his comrade SHiT spends his CNY burnt up in the hospital.

The lousiest, highest paid leader in the world!

Singapore is not traditionally an Arts culture country compared to countries like those European countries. We do not have the great expertise of such talents so our great PAP needs to invite them to come help us on this area. We must first absorb and learn all their experience and skills before we can do it all ourselves. In long run, it will benefit us.
