SINGAPORE: Police have arrested two youths aged 16 and 17 who are believed to be involved in a series of motorcycle thefts in Punggol.
Police had received a number of reports between August 8 and 27 of motorcycles stolen from various multi-storey car parks in the Punggol housing estate.
Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division working on the cases mounted an ambush and arrested one of the suspects while he was riding a stolen motorcycle at about 3.10am on Tuesday.
Following the arrest, the identity of his accomplice was swiftly established.
The said accomplice was then arrested in the vicinity of Block 637 Punggol Drive at about 3.25am on Tuesday.
The duo are believed to be involved in at least seven motorcycle thefts.
All the motorcycles have since been recovered.
The suspects will be charged in Court on Wednesday for theft of motor vehicles, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years' imprisonment.
Acting Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Chua Chuan Seng advised all vehicle owners never to leave their vehicle keys in their vehicle.
He also urged them to secure their vehicles with anti-theft systems at all times, even if the vehicles are left unattended for only a short while.
