IPOH: Two thieves failed in their attempt to break into several self-service machines at a bank on Persiaran Greenhill here.

In the incident that occurred at about 3.30am Tuesday, the duo used oxy-acetylene torch to cut open the machines but their move was unsuccessful.

There were burnt marks on an automated teller machine (ATM) and the pair of closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) on a cash deposit machine was sprayed with paint.

Ipoh Deputy OCPD (I) Superintendent Anuar Othman said an employee from the bank had lodged a report at about 8.30am after finding the machines vandalised.

He said based on visuals from the CCTV footages, the suspects’ operations had only lasted about 10 minutes.

“The suspects did not leave behind any tools or equipments, and we believed they have left in a car,” he told reporters when met at the scene.

He said the police had identified the suspects, clad in yellow and black jackets respectively, even though they were masked.

“The case was being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code,” he said.
