Two robbers nabbed after car chase, two more escape

IPOH: Police arrested two armed robbers after a 20-minute high-speed car chase in Falim here, shortly after they robbed a restaurant owner in Taman Pertama. The two suspects, aged 29 and 33, robbed the restaurant owner at 5.30am yesterday together with two others, said Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Azisman Alias.

“The second robber put up a fight before we managed to subdue him. He sustained light injuries,” ACP Azisman said in a press conference yesterday. He added that the two other accomplices escaped on foot. “One of the two who escaped was shot in the stomach when he tried to attack the police with a parang,” he said.

Hospitals and clinics have been urged to contact the nearest police station if they encounter anyone seeking treatment for a gunshot wound. ACP Azisman said the 10km car chase started at Taman Pertama after the police were notified by the public about the robbery.

The police tracked the robbers’ car and gave chase before cornering them in Taman Mas, Falim. “During the chase, the getaway car also rammed into four vehicles,” ACP Azisman said, adding that five police patrol cars were involved in the chase.

He said the robbers, from Ipoh, are believed to be have been involved in several armed robbery cases here. He said four parang, two ski masks, mobile phones, wallets and RM275 were seized. ACP Azisman said the two arrested suspects had criminal records for drugs, house break-in and vehicle theft. They will be remanded until Thursday.
