KUALA LUMPUR: TWO women were raped and robbed when they answered an advertisement on the Internet for attractive paying jobs as sales promoters in two separate incidents over the past one month.

Both incidents took place in budget hotels in the city where the "employer" held the interview sessions.

Police believe the same suspect was behind both incidents although he had posted the advertisements using two different emails.

The latest victim was a 22-year-old fresh graduate, who turned up for the interview session in a hotel room in Taman Segar, Cheras, on Saturday.

The diploma holder claimed she was called for an interview by the man, said to be in his 30s, at a budget hotel at 3.30pm.

City Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief Assistant Commissioner Khairi Ahrasa said prior to the "interview session", the victim had responded to an advertisement on www.asiaparttime.com before emailing her particulars to [email protected].

"The suspect offered applicants an allowance of RM400 a day. This was his way of luring his victims."

The victim was also robbed of her handbag containing an undisclosed sum of cash and a handphone.

Khairi said earlier last month, a 23-year-old woman suffered the same fate.

"The modus operandi used by the suspect was similar and we believe that both of them were raped by the same suspect.

"The only difference was the suspect had used a different email in the first advertisement and he only offered RM200 to the first applicant."

Khairi urged the public, especially women, to be extra cautious when responding to such advertisements.

"Applicants should run a background check on the employer and the hotel where the interview is supposed to be held.

"If it is a genuine job offer, why must the interviews be conducted in hotel rooms? If you still need to go, at least bring a friend along."

Both cases are being investigated for rape and robbery.
