Two people charged with misappropriating cash from employers

Posted: 20 March 2012 1224 hrs

SINGAPORE: A man and a woman were charged on Tuesday in two separate cases for misappropriating cash from their employers.

Chong Kheng Wah was charged on Tuesday for misappropriating more than S$18,500 from his employer.

The 40-year-old man is accused of criminal breach of trust from July 8 to October 7, 2010, when he was an employee at Presto Drycleaners Pte Ltd.

If convicted, Chong could face a jail term of up to 15 years and fined.

Separately, a 39-year-old woman was also charged with criminal breach of trust on Tuesday.

Torres Necitas Mariano, a Filipino, had misappropriated a cheque worth more than S$3,600 belonging to her then employer, AJ Property Services Pte Ltd.

She had allegedly committed the offence on August 18, 2011 while working as an accountant of the firm located in Ang Mo Kio.

Mariano is expected to plead guilty later.
