Two Nigerians escape while enroute to KLIA for deportation
PUTRAJAYA: Two Nigerian men escaped while being escorted to the KLIA for deportation Wednesday night and two Immigration officers suspended from duties over the incident. The vehicle carrying the officers, Nigerians and a Palestinian man had stopped at a petrol station near the airport at about 11pm.
Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mahmood Adam said the Nigerians managed to run away while still being handcuffed. The Palestinian, however, did not follow them and has been deported. He said the Nigerians were held for misusing their student visa. They have no passport with them when they were detained.
Mahmood said the Immigration officers have been suspended due to investigations into the incident. He said the probe would also look into weaknesses in transporting such detainees. He said police have photographs, thumbprints of the Nigerians and the ministry was working with the police to track them down.
