JOHOR BARU: Police nabbed two men described as “dangerous” and seized a gun with eight bullets from their car. The two suspects, aged 37 and 38, are believed to be part of a syndicate involved in more than 20 robbery cases here.

“One of them had a previous record for possession of counterfeit money,” said Johor Baru OCPD Asst Comm Zainuddin Yaacob.

The police also found several items believed to be used to commit crimes, including four black ski masks, two vehicle number plates, black tape, a pair of handcuffs and four mobile phones.

ASP Zainuddin said the two men were dangerous as they were in possession of a gun.

He said the police detained the suspects at around midnight on Dec 21, after a patrol car spotted a vehicle parked along Jalan Permas 11 at Bandar Permas Jaya.

“The police also recovered a .38 calibre pistol with eight bullets in the car,” he told reporters at the Johor Baru (South) district police headquarters here yesterday.

“We are thankful that nothing untoward happened when the two men were detained,” he said, adding that the police was confident of nabbing other members.

ACP Zainuddin said the case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1971 which carries a maximum 14-year jail sentence and not less than six strokes of the cane.

He urged those with information to contact the police hotline at 07-2212999 or the nearest police station.
