Two houses located several kilometres apart in Johor Baru were shot at in the early hours of Wednesday. Police spokesman Superintendent Noor Hashim Mohamed said the houses were attacked around 4am.

In the first incident, six family members in a house on Jalan Limau Nipis in Kangkar Pulai were jolted out of their sleep by the sound of gunshots.

Said Supt Noor Hashim: "The family thought that somebody had thrown firecrackers inside their compound, but they later saw gunshot marks on their front door and walls."

He said they recovered five bullet cartridges in the compound.

The second case occurred in Taman Pulai Perdana.

"Four shots were fired and there were marks on the walls. A car parked in the porch was also damaged," Supt Noor Hashim said.

He said the owner of that house works in Singapore, while his 35-year-old wife, who is a teacher in a Tamil school, and their two children were asleep in the house.

No one injured

Supt Noor Hashim added that no one was injured and the bullets had been sent to the laboratory for tests. The police have yet to find out the reason behind the shooting.

The homeowner, Mr M Sivam, told Harian Metro that the bullets were found in the front of his house and in the garage.

He said: "My wife came to know about the incident only after she woke up at about 7am that day and saw the bullet marks on the gate."
