In the first case of its kind, two doctors were fined on Thursday for making fraudulent declarations.

Ng Hor Liang, 45, who runs Bukit Batok West Clinic, was fined a total of $12,000 after he pleaded guilty to two charges. These were for practising at the clinic from Jan 1 to Feb 10 last year when he did not have a valid practising certificate; and stating in his letter of undertaking to the Singapore Medical Council that he had not been in active clinical practice, which he knew to be false.

Gladys Wong Mei Ling, 48, of Healthpoint Family Clinic and Surgery at Tanglin Halt, was fined $4,000 for submitting a letter of undertaking to the SMC on Jan 26 last year, stating that she was not involved in any active clinical practice since Jan 1 the same year which she knew to be false.

Another charge against each of them was taken into consideration in sentencing.
