SERDANG - Two Colombian men and a Zambian woman who were supposed to be charged with burglaries and a drug offence have escaped police custody.

The Colombians were among 10 detainees being sent from the state centralised lock-up in Shah Alam to the Petaling Jaya magistrate's court on Tuesday.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Razak Elias said police were "bewildered" as to how the two escaped.

"Prior to leaving for the courthouse, the escort unit counted 10 detainees. However, upon reaching the court, there were only eight left," he said at a press conference yesterday.

ACP Abdul Razak said the two - Sana Bria Florian Jorge Luis, 22, and Martin Rodriguez Yerson David, 26, - were in handcuffs and wearing prison uniforms when they left for the courthouse.

"There were three police personnel escorting the detainees and their statements have been recorded to assist in investigations," he said.

On the same day, the Zambian escaped police custody via a getaway car.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohamed said the 37-year-old woman, identified as Betty Chilleshe, was to have been charged with drug offences when she escaped at about 11am.

"She managed to run while police personnel were removing her handcuffs. She ran from the first floor of the building into an awaiting car outside," he said,

Expressing shock over the incident, ACP Arjunaidi said police would go all out to track down the suspect.

"Two police personnel who escorted the woman are now under investigations," he said.

He urged those with information to contact Asst Supt Lim Chee Khoon at 012-3151919.
