A bouncy castle has gone flying in the air, carrying a number of children inside of it.

Two young boys were seriously injured as the inflatable "bounce house" flew several metres in the air before crash landing on concrete, US media reported.

The boys fell out of the bouncy castle while five metres in the air, with one boy suffering traumatic head injuries.

A neighbor said the other boy had two broken arms and facial injuries.

The incident happened as children were playing in a New York apartment complex.

One boy was thrown onto the footpath, while the other flew in the other direction and landed on a parked car.

The boys were rushed to a local hospital in South Glens Falls, New York.

Taylor Seymour, a resident at the apartment block where the incident happened, said the inflatable structure was picked up by the wind as if it were in a small tornado.

"It was like a horror movie," Seymour said.

"It just kept going up and up. It cleared our building and the trees."

The structure had been attached to the ground with stakes, but the wind was so strong it pulled them out.

The mother of a 10-year-old girl, who was about to climb into the bouncy castle before it was lifted in the air, said her daughter was lucky to have been tossed out as it was lifted from the ground.

"My older daughters witnessed it and said it was just horrible," the mother said.

"A big gust of wind just blew it right off the ground with the kids in it. It's just sickening."
