SINGAPORE: Two chefs who admitted to receiving bribes from a seafood supplier have been fined between S$5,000 and S$10,500. They were also ordered to pay penalties equivalent to the bribes they received.

At the time of the offences, 41-year-old Goh Chee Kong was a chef at Min Jiang One North Restaurant. He was fined S$10,500.

He had accepted more than S$11,000 from the owner of Wealthy Seafood Product and Enterprise, Tay Ee Tiong, between February 2007 and August 2009.

Separately, 46-year-old Chan Tak Ming, who was then the chef at Pine Gardens Restaurant, took more than S$3,000 from Tay between November 2007 and June 2009. Chan was fined S$5,000.

The two chefs would ensure that their restaurants ordered supplies from Tay, in return for the bribes.

The maximum punishment for corruption is a jail term of five years and a fine of S$100,000. - CNA/ac
