Two burglars caught

INEPT: Accomplice flees with RM30,000 worth of loot
The two burglars nabbed while trying to escape police arrest at a house in Subang Jaya yesterday.
SUBANG JAYA: TWO burglars probably realised now that they had not made the smartest choice of houses to hit. And if attempting to break into a house just metres away from a police station was not bad enough, they did so in broad daylight.
The duo also did not chose too wisely in terms of an accomplice as their lookout fled the scene when police arrived. The so-called comedy of errors on Saturday occurred when the duo broke into a house in Jalan SS17/3C here about 11am.
They left an accomplice to act as a lookout in a car outside the house. But the house owner's sister-in-law, who lived nearby, suspected something amiss and called the police.
The accomplice fled upon seeing the police arriving at the scene.
One of the burglars, who was on the rooftop, tried to escape while the other had fallen from the ceiling while trying to climb up and out through the roof.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Ramli said the suspects' accomplice fled the scene in a Volkswagen Golf GTI, but not before crashing into three vehicles, including a police patrol car.
The accomplice escaped with RM30,000 worth of loot, which included jewellery and smartphones, taken from the house. Yahaya said the burglars panicked after seeing the police and ran back into the house after realising that their accomplice had ditched them.
"The burglar who fell from the ceiling sustained injuries to the face," he said, adding that the house owner was in Klang at the time of the incident. It is understood that the burglars disarmed the alarm system by burning the control box outside the house before breaking into the house.
Yahaya said checks on the duo showed that they had previous convictions. One of them was also high on police wanted list. "We are checking if they are linked to the Morning Glory Gang, which uses a similar modus operandi."
The gang, he added, who usually drove around in luxury vehicles, was responsible for a spate of burglaries in the Klang Valley since the beginning of the year. Yahaya said the gang was also linked to the killing of a 31-year-old man who was shot in front of a hotel in Jalan Ampang last month.
