SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 76-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman for suspected involvement in loanshark harassment.
The police said they were informed on Tuesday evening about a suspicious man loitering near Clementi West Avenue 2.
Officers from Clementi Police Division arrived at the scene and conducted a check on him.
A mobile phone believed to contain debtors' records was found in his possession. He was placed under arrest and his mobile phone seized.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was a debtor-turned-runner who had assisted loansharks in their business by giving away his Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) to loansharking syndicates to facilitate the business of unlicensed moneylending.
Further probes subsequently led to the arrest of a female suspect at Bedok who is also believed to be involved in several cases of loanshark harassments committed at housing estates in Pasir Ris, Tampines, Bedok Reservoir and Aljunied.
