MR LEE KWUN LAM: 'Every year, I receive the bill for my TV licence fee with my property tax bill. This, I pay grudgingly as my family uses the TV mainly to watch news and DVDs as we are seldom home during TV prime time. My property tax on an HDB four-room flat is $124 after various concessions and rebates. My TV licence fee is $110, which is rather hefty in comparison. I understand the fee is used to fund production and airing of various documentaries and educational programmes for which sponsors cannot be found. Given that the fee is compulsory for every household that owns a TV set, I hope the Media Development Authority (MDA) can tell us which programmes require such enormous funding. Can the MDA consider reducing the TV licence fee in these difficult times?'

2) Computer do not have TV card. Internet TV does not count.

Yup,seems like a legacy of those days when TV shows were free.
Now with paid cable TV, the justification no longer exist.

They should drop the TV license fee and charge accordingly by channels (like Starhub)- I'm willing to bet that the majority will forgo the existing free to air channels (5,8,U, Okto, Suria, ect2) once they have to pay for it.
It will be a good thing as most are propogandaa-like the ST.

I have stopped watching them for years-and most of their newsreaders and news reporters are @#%&!

BBC (pioneer of tv license) and NHK have to pay license.

both does not show commerical by private companies, but show their own commerical that introduce their show - which is to me - same pestering shit

most industries state have tv license one time in the past, but remove one by one.

singapore is unique in taking tv license and still show private commerical.
just like pap taking massive tax from car, and give nothing in return in public transport, and insist on taking more from public transport.

Come to think of it, it is.. so Property Tax should be raised so that TV license does look smaller in comparison to property tax..
