MHP Chairman Devlet Bahceli reacted to the burning of the Qur’an in Sweden and said, “Burning the Qur’an cannot be considered as freedom of expression and thought. There can be no freedom of barbarism.” used his statements.
Speaking at the group meeting of his party, the headlines of Bahçeli’s statements are as follows:
BURNING THE QURAN IN SWEDEN
“The burning of the Holy Quran in front of a mosque in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, on the first day of Eid al-Adha, and the patronage of this vandalism is both an insult to our faith and a betrayal of human values. Reading the Qur’an is a divine gift and blessing, burning it is cowardice and degeneracy. It is completely against the ordinary course of life and events to think that this provocation in the nature of a hate crime was planned and implemented by a certain Iraqi-born madman alone.
The vile action that took place at a time when Sweden’s NATO accession negotiations were held and there were hot developments regarding the meeting of the NATO Summit in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, on 11-12 July 2023, is suspicious in all aspects. Burning the Qur’an cannot be considered as freedom of expression and thought. Barbarism cannot have freedom.
Freedom is the right to do something that does not harm others. I would like to warn you that the Qur’an is not a piece of paper, it is the light of Allah that has been sent down to earth, a wall of bliss, safety, guidance and wisdom that has been bestowed upon intelligent believers to think, understand and learn. Even if the whole world is set on fire, it is never possible for our sublime book to ignite with its word and meaning, and for the divine judgments to be burned to ashes. Whoever burns the Qur’an has burned himself. The Qur’an has reached the bottom of the burning hell. While the West was struggling in darkness, a perfect harmony was achieved between science and religion, mind and faith, matter and spirit, the world and the hereafter, thanks to the light radiated by Islam, and the Qur’an was revealed as the greatest miracle.
The Turkish nation has always respected beliefs and human rights and behaved respectfully. When we part the leaves of history that tremble with excitement, it will be seen that the Gokturk Empire and the Byzantine Empire formed an alliance against the fiery-spirited Sassanid Empire of the time, and the close relationship and ties established with the people of the book religions were the determinants of this. In Sweden, I condemn the primitiveness that bleed our sensitivities and scratch our dignity of faith, and intolerances that have even passed the point of excess and infidelity, and I sincerely believe that the unclean hands reaching for the Book of Allah will be broken when the day comes….
