Trump is right. Globalization is cancer. Lately, people are also terrified of tariffs because they think globalism matters. It doesn’t.
My life is not better with so many foreigners in Singapore, packed like sardines in trains, KTV prices surged, waited 5 hours in A&E last night, COE went higher despite worst market crash since Lehmen brothers, inflation and GST higher, even coldplay concert tickets reserved for foreigners who buy with hotel-bookings............. hahaha even your Singapore airlines is hiring more Malaysian girls and training Indian pilots.
Most Singaporeans don't benefit from FTAs; we had to open up our job markets to CECA. Many exporters in Singapore are owned or proxies for China or Indian businesses who re-badge Chinese goods as MADE-IN-SINGAPORE to enjoy lower tariffs with our trade partners.
Your income may be higher, but you are less likely to afford a new car and it takes longer for you to pay for your dream condo compared to 20-30 years ago. If our purchasing power did not increase and we grew our economy based on inflation, so why not stop the influx of foreigners to bring to bring back some affordability?
Look at your child's school, probably the head prefect or vice-head prefects don't have local parents. By "local", i refer to children with a father or grandfather (mum married foreigner) who served NS. We gave so many scholarships to foreigners and dorm slots in top schools to foreigners, just imagine how the lives of countless more local families could have changed if these resources were channeled to local kids.
