A man and woman burned to death when the driver of the truck they were in was distracted by them having sex in the back of the cabin and crashed into a truck in front, reports the Jiangxi-based news website Dajiang. The driver, named in the report as Zhang Zhangsheng, survived the crash and resulting blaze and is to be sentenced for manslaughter by the district court of Anfu county in the eastern Chinese province.
The accident happened on Dec. 5 last year, when Liu Xifeng (name changed), the boss of a haulage company was transporting goods from neighboring Hubei province. Liu brought with him a female companion, named as Chen Hairong, whom Zhang had seen before.
During the course of the journey, Liu moved from the seat next to Zhang and climbed into the cab's rear compartment, where he woke up Chen and the two started to have sex. The driver at first tried to ignore them but ultimately could not help looking back to watch.
His distraction meant that he did not see a slower truck in front of him until it was too late to stop. The trucks collided and caught fire. Though Zhang was injured in the crash, he was able to escape but Liu and Chen burned to death in the cab. Workers found their naked bodies at the scene.
Liu was a married father of two while Chen had a husband who worked away from home as well as one child. The court in Jiangxi's Anfu county ordered the company's insurers to pay 987,000 yuan (US$161,000) in compensation to the families of the two victims, while Zhang's sentence for negligent homicide is expected to be delivered soon.
