The police have arrested two men and a woman aged between 32 and 43 for suspected involvement in loansharking activities island-wide.
The police were informed of loan shark runners sending threatening notes to debtors on Oct 7. The woman was arrested 10 days later on Monday. Her two accomplices were also arrested on the same day.
The police said that the trio worked in tandem to commit acts of harassment on behalf of loansharks. Their acts included sending notes with threatening and offensive content to debtors and splashing paint on debtors' units in several locations island-wide.
Under the Moneylenders Act, first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined between $5,000 and $50,000, jailed up to five years, and caned up to six times.
