The Meteorological Services confirmed that an earthquake occurred at about 9.52am in Southern Sumatra, approximately 480 kilometres southwest of Singapore.
Tremors were felt in various parts of the country at about 9.56am.
Police and the Civil Defence Force said they received 57 calls from the public reporting the tremors.
They said there is no cause for alarm.
Workers in Shenton Way, Tanjong Pagar, Robinson Road and Ang Mo Kio felt their office buildings shaking at about 9.55am.
“At around 10am, there was some shaking for about less than one minute,” said an employee at Tong Eng Building, located off Cecil Street in the central business district. “(Wednesday’s tremors) at about 6-something (in the evening)… was more serious… took about two to three minutes.”
He continued to say that workers from the higher floors had rushed down to the ground floor for safety. He also said employers inspected the building for cracks, declared the building safe, and things have since returned to normal.
