THE growing population, an expanded rail network and rising motoring costs have sent public transport ridership up for the fifth year running.

And the trend is likely to continue - in line with the Government's push to have more people commute by trains and buses.

Based on preliminary data obtained from public transport operators SBS Transit and SMRT Corp, the number of average daily trips on buses and trains hit nearly 5.04 million last year.

More ridership means the PTC ( Pass The Cost), will raise fares, and tell you, that; it hasn't risen since...just like the polytechnic fees...:p

When the circle lines is completed, the taxi drivers can sing this:

I was standing by my window
On a cold and cloudy day
When I saw that hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away

(chorus)
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky

(break)

Well I told the undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For the body that you are hauling
Lord, I hate to see her go

chorus

(break)

Well I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in her grave

chorus

(break)

Went back home, Lord, oh so lonesome
Since my mother she was gone
All my brothers, sisters crying
What a home so sad and 'lone

Why must trains transit at Ang Mio Kio and Yishun? It is frustrating enough to pay for air-con train without air-con and cheated passengers by opening air vents on top of cabins.

Why must trains transit at Ang Mio Kio and Yishun? ...

It's not where they transit but when. I see trains ending services in Yishun.Angmo kio even during the peak hours, when trains are full.

Its obvious that such decisions are driven by $$$. More sardines mean more profit$.

Vote out the PAP if you want to see improvements

I wouldn't worry too much about the taxi drivers. Goh Meng Seng did a nice bit of analysis on the Singapore transportation system here:

http://singaporealternatives.blogspot.com/2010/01/inadequate-public-transportion-iii.html

The analysis shows that MRT and SBS ridership has risen signficantly due to the increase in population. The frequency of the MRT trains and the number of SBS buses have however not kept pace with population growth. As such, our public transport has become increasingly cramped and uncomfortable to use.

Things have become so bad that people have switched to using cars and taxis. LTA has been quietly milking their COE cash cow by significantly increasing the number of COEs issued. Their road building program has however not kept pace with the number of cars they alllowed on the roads. This leads to road congestion. LTA then comes along and raises ERP to "ease congestion".
