KUALA LUMPUR: A furniture shop owner who was held captive overnight in his own premises was beaten and robbed by more than 30 people who also demanded that he pay RM600,000.

Fergan Khan, 33, and his brother Irfan Khan, 37, from Pakistan together with two workers, who run the furniture shop near Ampang Point were about to close at 10pm on Wednesday when the incident occurred.

“As we were about to leave, a group of more than 30 people suddenly appeared and shoved us back into the shop before closing the door. They bashed me and my brother and demanded RM600,000.

“Despite repeatedly telling them we did not have that kind of money, they continued to beat us up through the night,” Fergan said. He said the assailants who were armed with metal rods; one of them had a pistol, also destroyed some furniture.

After the assault, the tired assailants went to sleep. At about 9am, Fergan realised all the assailants were asleep and quietly escaped through the back and ran to the Ampang Jaya district police station, 2km away.

“I related the incident and police followed me back to the shop. “On seeing the police the suspects ran but police managed to arrest three of them,” Fergan said, adding that his brother was rushed to the Ampang Hospital.

The remaining suspects escaped with RM37,000, two Rolex watches and some jewellery. It was learnt that Irfan had suffered a skull fracture but was in stable condition.

The other workers were given outpatient treatment at the hospital.Police are looking for the other suspects and urge anyone with information on the incident to contact the nearest police station.
