Trader’s dream of riches ends with drug bust
SHAH ALAM: An Acehnese textile trader who used to boast to his friends that he would soon become rich and go home for Hari Raya is going to do neither. He was arrested at Old Klang Road for having in his possession 7.3kg of cannabis in his car. Also arrested were two jobless Malaysians, a man and his sister-in-law, who had an additional 8.8kg of cannabis in their possession.
Selangor narcotics chief Asst Comm Nordin Kadir said the 16.1kg of compressed cannabis seized was worth RM40,250. “Our initial investigations revealed that the cannabis was brought in from a neighbouring country and was meant for the Klang Valley market. “Every 2kg of compressed cannabis is estimated to be sold at RM1,800,” he said, adding that the police managed to make the arrests after six months of surveillance.
All three suspects have been remanded for a week. ACP Nordin said the Selangor Narcotics Department drugs in the Acehnese’s Naza Citra after stopping the vehicle near Taman Medan Maju along Old Klang Road at about 3.45pm on Thursday. The arrest of the 25-year-old Acehnese led to the arrest of the 30-year-old Malaysian man believed to be the distributor of the drug.
“Our second suspect was arrested at the Selangor wholesale market at about 9.30pm on the same day and 2kg of cannabis was found in the man’s car,” he said. The man then led police to a house in Taman Lestari Putra in Seri Kembangan at about 2.30am on Aug 21 where the remaining cannabis were found. At the house, a 32-year-old woman was arrested. It is learnt that the woman is the sister-in-law of the Malaysian suspect.
